Abstract: | [The genesis of a... predicative idea] This article has in view G. G. Neamțu’s analytic approach regarding the semantic and syntactic status both of the verb to be and the other verbs, which are integrated, according to the traditional grammars, as copula verbs. G. G. Neamțu concluded that a fi possesses two syntactic roles: one the role of copula verb, inside the phrase a fi + a nominal (noun, adjective, pronoun, numeral), and the role of noncopula, in the phrase a fi + adverb (or interjection). Based upon a rigorous and original demonstration, G. G. Neamțu establishes that the subjective predicative complement and the copula verb are both subordinated to the subject, each independently and differently; between the two constituents does not exist any kind of syntactic relation „materialized”. Therefore, the nominal predicate is not a unitary function, but a structure that can be analysed such as an insufficient predicate and a subjective predicative complement. |
