Abstract: | [Anthroponyms in a Roma community: Between tradition and modernity] The paper starts from a database provided by a compact Roma community, found in the village of Ţicău, subordinate to the town of Ulmeni. Their settlement was recorded a long time ago and named “Ţicău the second” by the inhabitants. The research focuses on the establishment of this historical settlement, from the beginning of its formation up to the present time. Children’s first names were recorded using a questionnaire, in order to discover the variety of domains that inspired the parents. The phenomenon is interesting, because these names are borrowed from the films they watch, the music industry and the world of sport. Their motivations are various, but the most important ones are related to the aspects of celebrity. |
