Abstract: | The last decades’ developments in the study of literary imaginary show a need for a new hermeneutical approach capable of grasping the image’s depth and force in the linguistic construction in which it arises – in particular, the metaphor: the figure is no longer considered the expression of a non-verbal configuration, but rather a primary generating factor, through which a new sense of reality is revealed. The Stonecutter’s Escape, second short story of the volume The Madmen’s Equinox and Other Stories by A. E. Baconsky, presents a reflection upon human existence, especially concerning the complex relation between the intimate reality and the cosmic dimension in which it occurs. The metaphor, thanks to the conflict of meaning that it creates, proves to be a privileged instrument for the exploration and re-description of the intimate rift between conscious and unconscious dimensions. |
