This article aims to describe the communicative parameters which make possible the transgression of the intertextuality from its constructive function, referential and realistic, to the ironic, critical and self-referential function. The analysis concerns the narrative fiction in Flaubert’s texts Bouvard et Pécuchet and The Dictionary of Received Ideas (Le dictionnaire des idées reçues). Mikhail Bakhtin’s studies on the polyphony in novel, as well as Oswald Ducrot’s pragmatic studies on irony provide the theoretical framework of our contribution. The concepts and methodology of discourse analysis, pragmatics and rhetoric are also used as analytical tools. Thus, we try to unify different perspectives on intertextual irony in an interdisciplinary and integrative approach.
