Abstract: | This essay operates an analysis on the Turkish personal names, as they appeared in Cantemir’s Latin works. Most of the times, the writing suffers the influences of the bibliographical sources – humanist works also written in Latin and the Othman histories written in Turkish language. Sometimes, the author’s own experience dictates the manner of “latinization” for a certain name. Cantemir’s cultural background often helps him to use the proper form; all these influences led to a diversity of forms circumscribed to the circulation of ideas and works at the end of XVIIth century. |
